Antelope Valley Students Go Far - Away

Two local women, Kali Kreitz of Quartz Hill High School (2007), and
Roxanne Neely,
a 2007 graduate from Lancaster High School, have been awarded
2009 – 2010
Strategic Language Initiative Scholarships.
The Antelope Valley juniors from
Cal State University
Stanislaus
and Cal State East Bay, respectively, were selected to complete intensive
linguistic programs in State Department sponsored programs which finish
up with 6 week summer 2010 study abroad projects.
Kreitz, who's mother is Principal at Lancaster High School, is studying
beginning Arabic at CSU San Bernardino this summer and in Amman, Jordan
next summer. She is a Political Science major with minors in Mathematics and
Spanish at CSU Stanislaus.
Neely, a heritage speaker of Farsi (Persian) is an intermediate level student at
CSU Fullerton this summer and will spend next summer in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
She is majoring in International Studies.
Neely was the 2006 Golden League MVP in Girl’s Volleyball at age 16.
She now leads the
Cal State East Bay Pioneers as their volleyball team
transitions from NCAA Division III to Division II play.
Both young women have impressive resumes with plans to work for
government agencies and to gain advanced degrees.
